Dianne Foster (Cheeseman) (1969)

Dad died on 4/23/16 at age 95. He was born and raised on a farm north of Waverly with 6 siblings. He graduated from  Waverly High School in 1940 and worked at Zeidlers Concrete until he was drafted in June, 1941.  He served in the Army in Africa, Italy, France, Germany and Austria. He received 5 Bronze Stars, 6 Campaign Ribbons, 5 Battle Stars and a Purple Heart. He returned home in June, 1945, married Ruth Moeller on 3/28/47, and farmed until 1966 when he started working at Carnation. He retired from there in 1986. In 2013 he and Mom moved into Waverly.    He loved teaching Sunday School and testing all of us (and our pastors) on our knowledge of the Bible.   His favorite pastime was softball.  He played and coached a men’s fast pitch team for many years.  When his boys and nephews were old enough, he coached a little boys team ages 8-12, a boys team ages 12-16, and started girls “Little Miss” in the early 1970’s.  He was best known for his love of umpiring and his vocal skills!    Dad was survived by his wife of 69 years and his children, Dianne Cheeseman, Brian Foster, Bruce Foster, Rebecca Gade and Brenda Foster, 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son and daughter-in-law, David and Sharron Foster.
