Everett Asmus, 72, of Webster City, died Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Windsor Manor. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at Asbury United Methodist Church with Pastor John Hembry, officiating. Burial will be held at Graceland Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center. 
Everett was born January 2, 1946, at Waverly, Iowa, to Paul and Lillie (Huegel) Asmus. He graduated from Waverly-Shell Rock High School in 1964, then from Iowa State University in 1968 with a degree in Psychology. While there he met Sheryl Persinger, and they were united in marriage on May 4, 1969. He had enrolled in the United States Army for three years, and three weeks after their wedding, he left for a year of duty in Vietnam. After leaving the military, Everett returned to Iowa State University and earned his Master's Degree in School Psychology in 1973. For eight years he was a school psychologist for districts and area education agencies around Rockwell City and Grundy Center, where he resided with his family. At that point he made a complete career change, moving to Webster City, Iowa where he began as a loan officer with Production Credit Association, which later became Farm Credit Services of America. Ev completed thirty years as a financial officer, retiring in August, 2011. He resided the past year at Windsor Manor Gardens in Webster City. 
Everett was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Webster City, where he sang many years in the church choir and served on numerous committees. He also served as a Prayer Warrior and attended weekly Man-to Man Bible study. He volunteered as a 4-H leader and department superintendent at the county fair for several years. He served six years on the Iowa 4-H Foundation, and in 2001 was named a State Honorary 4-H Member. The family established the Persinger-Asmus-Ferrin state 4-H scholarship in 1997. He was a life member of the Iowa State University Alumni Association and active with the Hamilton County ISU Alumni Association, receiving their Service Key Award in 1996. Everett was twice elected as a soil district commissioner for Hamilton County. He was a member of, and pancake maker for, the Hamilton County Fair Foundation for a number of years. He also belonged to Main Street Kiwanis and served in various officer positions over the years.
Everett and Sheryl enjoyed traveling and took a number of trips around the United States and abroad. Over the years they hosted three exchange students from Norway and their families, who became like extended family. They traveled to Norway twice to continue this friendship. Other overseas trips took them to England, Italy, Australia, and New Zealand. Ev's interests also included photography, singing, reading, John Deere tractors, auto mechanics, and classic cars. He was especially proud of his '96 silver Corvette with red interior.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 48 years, Sheryl; three children, Brian (Carla) Asmus of Omaha, Nebraska, Jill (Michael) Schumacher of Omaha, Nebraska, and Todd (Therese) Asmus of Chisago City, Minnesota; ten grandchildren, Dylan and Ethan Asmus, Luke, James, Henry, and Lillie Schumacher, and Noah, Isabella, Amayah, and Nadia Asmus; brother-in-law, Harlen Persinger, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; two sisters-in-law, Colene Ferrin of Marshalltown, Iowa, and Donna Asmus of Arthur, Illinois; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Larry.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Asbury United Methodist Church in Webster City, the Iowa 4-H Foundation, or Kindred Hospice in Fort Dodge.
