I was shocked to hear of Kathy's passing, although I knew she was coping with a serious illness over the past few years. I remember Kathy from junior high, when we were among those selected for the advanced math regimen all the way through high school, with our singular instructor, Mr. Flickinger. The experience was wonderful. Kathy was a very proper, smart lady and I really respected her.
Amazingly, I think I am a shirttail relative as her last name is the same as my maternal grandmother. Somehow I never grasped that lineage.
