Barrie Britton (1959)

October 7, 1940 - May 12, 2014

Family, friends and the Long Beach community have lost a devoted educator.

Born in Waverly, Iowa, Vern obtained his Ph.D in 1968, and went on to a long and distinguished career in Microbiology, both in New York City and at CSULB. Teaching was Vern's real passion and his highest priority.

The recipient of many honors and awards over his career, his most treasured were bestowed by his students. He was active in conducting research on the immunology, publishing more than 60 articles and book chapters.

Vern is survived by his sister, Jacquline Ring of Alberta, Canada, his beloved nieces and nephews and his Godchild, Katerina Jenkins of Sebastopol, CA.

He was predeceased by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Eveland, his family, and his dear friend, Dr. Lee Cohen.

He leaves behind a large circle of friends and colleagues in New York City, Long Beach and throughout California, too numerous to name but forever in his heart, as he will be in theirs.
