Obituary for Mr. Roger Frank Swanson

Roger F. Swanson, 73, of Fort Myers, passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2014. He was born January 1, 1941 in Waverly, IA, son of the late Hugh H. and Gertrude I. Swanson. He moved to the local area from Fredericksburg, Virginia in 2001.
Dr. Swanson received his BA, Masters and Doctorate from the American University School of International Service and is the author of three books and several articles and monographs. Prior to his retirement, he served as President of the U.S.-Japan Business Council, Inc. in Washington, D.C., an organization of leading U.
S. business leaders engaged in investment and trade with Japan.
Previously, he was on the faculty at the Johns-Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies and also taught at the Policy Seminar Series at Georgetown University School of Foreign Service. Prior to his professorship, he served at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce national headquarters in Washington, D.C. as director of Japan and Canada Affairs and Executive Director of the Task Force on Multinational Corporations and International Organizations. Prior to that position, he served as analyst in National Defense in the Congressional Research Service of the Library of Congress.
Roger Swanson is a member of Iona Hope Episcopal Church in Fort Myers, where he did volunteer work. He is survived by his son, Chip Swanson and his brothers, Gary and Steven Swanson.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, June 30, 2014 at Iona Hope Episcopal Church, 9650 Gladiolus Drive, Fort Myers, with the Rev. John Adler officiating.
